SETTING THE WORLD
WORLD MODIFIERS In the “select world” list just before starting the game, you can modify the settings. I recommend it for “normal” gaming
– Death penalty: somewhere from occasional to normal
– Resource rate: Get over 2x for reduced grind (Although I use 3x), for my solo play. This is really important and will change your game for the better.
– Portals: I recommend normal. If you decide to nerf the game mechanics to be able to metal through portals, you lose the game supply chain needed to move metal, which is an important part of game design and drives exploration and strategic thinking to work with geography.
(It also makes for interesting historical accuracy.) but if you’d prefer to shorten it, that’s up to you, of course.
You can go back and adjust all of these settings at any time.
SAVE FILES LOCATION = C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate …. zip to backup your save files.
There are two kinds of save files, character saves and world saves.
BASIC CONTROLS AND HINTS
MOVE & FIGHT = WASD, Mouse & Space / E = Use / F = Forsaken Force / Mouse Buttons = Fight / Autowalk <Q or L > / V = Toggle Auto Pick Up.
NAVIGATE = mouse wheel or (, .) to zoom / E in bed to set spawn point / M = map
EAT or EQUIP= Tab= inventory / RH click in inventory or keys 1-9 anytime= equip tools or weapons, wear clothes or eat food
BUILD = Equip hammer for build mode, then right click = build menu / middle mouse = remove built item / scroll wheel = rotate / move = no grab / Q-E = grab options
BENCH = The hammer in the corner repairs your tools, weapons, and armor.
SAIL = E to climb the ladder out of the water / E = grab the rudder to sail / W = move forward and lower the sail (3 speeds, the first is windless rowing) / S = sail up or back. Destroy the ship and drive it through the portals by chopping the mast (you can rebuild it as you won’t lose any resources). Make sure you are in shallow water or you will lose nails and deer hide.
GROW = Equip Cultivator > cultivate the land first > carry seeds or carrots > Left click on land > right click to select seed > Click on land to plant > leave space between > after plucking you can replant as seeds.
MEADOWS AND FOREST
Shelter = Collect rocks and wood > Craft ax and chop trees > hammer > bonfire, workbench and bed (require) > build chest > explore and collect > better tools/weapons
DEER = bow > kill deer > cooking stand > roasted deer for better energy > upgrade workbench (Chopblock > Tanning Stand) > armor > weapon upgrade
HONEY = find an empty hut and get a queen bee > beehives > balance stamina/health (honey is a great energy food all the way to the plains).
BOSS FIGHT = start of day > bring 2 stag trophies to summon EIKTHYR > use arrows and run. PAK eikthyr trophy on sacrificial stone. You are now fully prepared for the Black Forest.
BRONZE & FINEWOOD = burial chambers (use ax on skeletons) > surtling cores > forge > smelter > furnace > antler pick > copper/tin > bronze ax > noble wood (unlocks karve) > bronze pick, spear, armor.
EXPLORE MORE = Karve ship > explore in Karve and build portal network > Metal ports near black forest > Metal supply chain > upgrade bench/forge/ bow
HALDOR = Get runes for haldor in burial chamber or tower > buy Mengingjord (capacity upgrade) and cultivator > Plant carrots > cauldron > processed food > fermenter > mead
ROUTINES = Go exploring in the morning (when the sun is in the east). Days are 18 minutes long. At night you can farm, build, cut down trees, smelt, cook and plan. Or sleep.
TROLLS = fire arrows and bronze spears and forsaken power > chase a rock or shoot from a tower > troll armor set = fast and light, sneaky effect (but bronze is stronger).
ELDER = (need 3 ancient seeds and 200 fire arrows), watch out for trolls > use altar pillars as cover / block with bronze shield (maybe entangle it in trees too)
SWAMP (& MOUNTAIN)
BASE UPDATE = troll moat and stilt wall (2m buffer). Aim for maximum relaxation effect with fire, rug, table, banner, chair, bed (and later hot tub, armor stand, maypole, Christmas tree)
BOAR TAMING = lead to paddock in meadows > throw food > no fires/fights nearby > stay nearby for 2 days to tame > feed carrots/turnips while tamed > max 5 per pen > butcher knife > kill elsewhere
COOKING = 3 types of food .. Minced Meat Gravy / Carrot Soup / Boiled Deer = 119 Health 117 Stamina. Also make anti-poison mead until you get the root mask.
SWAMP ENEMIES = Draugr are slow and blind when far away use arrows then shield parry and spear or sword > WRAITHS at night: Arrows then parry and sword > 5 chains > forged bellows
ABOMINATION = Either (a) arrows and run around the tree or (b) shield and sword and stay close to the lighter foot to avoid stomping or (c) shoot from the turret > get POISON MASK (and then root armor for the plains)
BETTER FOOD = turnip seeds > plant them > spice cauldron upgrade > draugr sausages / carrot soup / minced meat = 140 health 120 mountain stamina
SUNKEN CRYPTS = use rest effect, poison mead/root mask > get mud scrap > build smelters on swamp base > iron > blacksmith to L3 > Stonemason > grinding wheel > stone base construction.
METAL LOGISTICS & POWERUPS = Longship (nails + bark) bring bronze to swamps and/or export iron > iron pickaxe (for obsidian) > sword & upgrades > shield > armor/helmet
MOUNTAIN BASE = blood bag leeches > frost mead > build mountain base > iron pickaxe > obsidian (frost arrows and tool shelves) > Drake dragon (bow and arrow) > frost gland (for frost arrows) // wolves= firearrow or Shield parry (for better furniture), tame wood covered pits and trap by breaking wood // search buildings for onion seeds
BONEMASS PREPARATION = build a tree house near bonemass with a chest containing a spare bow, 2×100 frost arrows (or 10×100 if you use fire arrows – they do very little damage and he regenerates quickly), spare wood for ladders (if you don’t have a portal up there). (*Another approach is to hit him with a mace, but you probably already know that you don’t have to follow these instructions exactly 🙂 ).
BONEMASS = Start at dawn > eat food for stamina (speeds things up) > wear full root armor (for archery boost) > offer bones, then up to the treehouse and delete the ladder so the spawn can’t follow > Beware the Wraiths > Be quick, because Bonemass heals itself (that’s why you have so many arrows).
When you’re done, go display the trophy in your stone circle and then hit the mountains…
You also have Root Harness to protect you from Deathsquits on the plains.
Have fun!
BIG WARNING
This does not describe the game. It’s a quick guide to help you out, but there’s a lot more to the game than just progression.
