Armor
First, you need some serious armor to fight.
- Hydrothermal armor is an all-around great choice for all classes, as it has various bonuses to many things that vanilla armor doesn’t cover, such as maximum durability and bonuses.
- For melee players, Beetle armor can be used for more damage reduction, though Calamity nerfs beetle reduction from 45% to 30%.
- For rangers, Plague Reaper is a good armor alternative due to the set bonus attack that can easily tear apart Plaguebringer Goliath if used well.
-Also grants immunity to plague debuff. - Shroomite armor can also be used in tandem with the Hoverboard if the player prefers a slightly increased defense.
- For mage players, Specter Armor can be used in sync with Specter Wings for high damage and lifesteal.
- Mages may choose to use Brimflame armor instead due to its very strong bonus and increased damage. However, it has reduced survivability compared to the Specter armor.
- Spooky armor is also a great choice for summoners.
For rogue players, the best armor to get at this stage is the Umbraphile armor.
Accessories
Due to the high amount of damage that The Plaguebringer Goliath deals, it is important to prioritize good movement supplements to make it easier to dodge her attacks.
- Most wings should work for this fight as you’ll only need flight to avoid the PBG charge by flying up, but extended flight isn’t necessary for this fight. One can use the Hadal Mantle set bonus with hydrothermal armor for a 5% damage boost.
- High vertical velocity wings should be preferred for the above charges.
The MOAB can also be used for this fight, as fast jumping can be very useful for dodging projectiles and PBG rounds, but it may not be easy to use correctly. - If you have defeated the Empress of Light, the Empress Wings have incredible mobility when holding ▲ Up, which can make it much easier to dodge Plaguebringer Goliath’s attacks and get over her. Binding ▲ Up and ↷ Jump to the same button allows you to do this without having to use two different inputs.
- Items like Frog Leg, Large Gelatin, and Aero Stone can also be used to make it much easier to escape PBG horizontal dashes with their jump boost.
- Angel Treads are useful due to the horizontal speed and flight time they provide.
Note that when you increase movement speed, this will make the player to run at the same speed as Angel Treads, saving an accessory slot. However, the player will lose the increased flight time of Angel Treads. - Asgard’s Valor will be very helpful in dodging PBG. It can also be used to avoid contact damage by dashing into a boss, as this will give you immunity frames.
Tabi and its upgrades can be used for a much longer ride. - The Living Dew provides increased max HP as well as increased life regeneration equivalent to that of the honey buff.
- Also halves the duration of disease debuffs, which includes plague debuffs.
- The Infected Jewel provides health regen and defense when under a noxious debuff, allowing for extra survivability in this fight and also making the noxious debuff less noticeable.
- Alchemy Flask grants immunity to Plague and also spawns Plague Seekers for extra damage.
- The Void of Extinction is a great choice for increasing DPS.
- Community can also be used for good stat boosts all around as well as reducing the duration of the Plague debuff.
- Heavenly Shell, Fire Gauntlet, and Blood Worm Scarf should be used by melee players.
- The Deadshot Brooch and Sniper Scope will give guards more damage.
- Sigil of Calamitas and Mana Flower with Super Mana Potions will be useful for mages, both for damage and mana conservation.
- Note that using a quick mana button or mana regeneration potions can eliminate the need for Mana Flower and save an accessory slot.
- Star-Tainted Generator and Statis’ Blessing are the primary additions that summoners should prioritize.
- Vampiric Talisman and Abyssal Mirror can be used by rogues for lifesteal, stealth source for stealth strikes and more damage all around.
Weapons
Here is a list of weapons that would be very good against Plaguebringer Goliath.
- Soul Reaper’s lingering shots deal a lot of damage to the Goliath and also easily dispatch the minions it summons.
- Terra Blade is a very powerful option that delivers high DPS as well as continuous AoE damage to get rid of enemy missiles and mines.
-Blighted Cleaver can be useful during combat due to its projectiles. - Aegis Blade is an extremely powerful weapon that can take down a boss quickly.
- Vampire Knives deal less damage than the other options, but greatly improve survivability.
- Helstorm combined with Hyperius Bullets or Bubonic Rounds can make short work of both the boss and her summon.
- Continental Greatbow along with Holy Arrows can deal consistently good damage during combat.
- Hiding and splashing the Snowman Cannon can be very useful during combat.
- The Sea’s Searing can work quite well despite being from a lower level.
- The Blossom Flux deals high DPS, especially armor penetration effects.
- Forbidden Sun is the preferred choice for mages at this point in the progression.
- Everglade Spray can be used as a secondary weapon to spread Ichor and Cursed Inferno debuffs.
- Atlantis offers extremely high DPS, but has limited range and requires the player to stay close to the boss.
- Laser Machinegun consume several mana but still helps with constant DPS throughout the fight.
- The Resurrection Butterfly is a very powerful summon weapon for PBG due to its high damage and homing.
- The Xeno Staff can be very useful against the boss because it never misses and her extremely nimble movement.
- Kaleidoscope or Morning Star still remains the best whips available.
- Wither Blossoms staff is very good for its homing abilities, as well as plague seekers its projectiles will pounce to death.
- Hive Pod will summon a patrol that can be used for additional DPS.
- Plaguebringers is my favorite weapon against The Plaguebringer Goliath and her minions due to the bees spawned and their high DPS.
- Fantasy Talismans can be used due to their high DPS and homing projectiles, making them perfect for the boss as they do a lot of sudden turns.
- Brackish Flask can be used against minions due to her AoE.
- Stellar Knife is very useful against the boss because it is at home and can deal massive amounts of damage.
- Epidemic Shredder is very useful with his spawn and piercing abilities.
Due to the boss’s large hitbox and combat focus on vertical mobility, Heavenfallen Stardisk can be highly effective when fighting a boss in an underground arena, especially when paired with a Vampiric Talisman to aid survival.
Misc
- The Rod of Discord is not something I’d recommend especially when the player is in dangerous position due to its fast teleportation.
- The slimy saddle can be used to fall faster, helping to avoid Plaguebringer Goliath’s dashes.
- Drunk Princess candles can be placed to surround the arena, this increase your survival rate.
Combat
- Plaguebringer Goliath initially appears off-screen. She will always start the fight in the Plague Charger spawn phase to prevent cheap hits.
Phase 1
- In Phase 1, The Plaguebringer Goliath has 3 attacks to cycle through. After completing an attack, another one will be randomly selected. He cannot repeat the same attack twice in a row.
- He will tackle the player and perform three attacks in quick succession
- Flies above the player and fires a series of powerful Plague Stings and Plague Missiles at the
Player
- Spawns Plague Chargers that vary in size.
- Below 50% health, it stops spawning Plague Chargers and instead fires destructible homing
Plague Missiles.
Either falling or flying up combined with a dash can be a very effective way to deal with her charges.
Using the Rod of Discord can help when a player is cornered.
When she summons enemies, it is recommended to destroy them as quickly as possible, as they can become a nuisance if there are too many of them.
In expert mode
Plaguebringer Goliath’s damage and defense continue to increase as the fight continue.
Along with spawning Plague Chargers, The Plaguebringer Goliath will also spawn Plague Mines that will chase the player and start to slow them down after a certain amount of time.
Some of her stings will now appear in the player.
Phase 2
-At 50%, Plaguebringer Goliath will transform into its 2nd phase, which will be indicated by a sound effect and status message “PLAGUE NUKE BARRAGE ARMED, PREPARING TO LAUNCH!!!”.
Retains all attacks from Phase 1.
Also gains a new attack where it flies over the screen 3x over the player and fires an arc of green projectiles in the player’s general direction that explodes on contact with tiles.
Dodge the volleys or go through the gaps between each shot; these gaps will increase the further the projectiles travel.
Use the Rod of Discord to teleport past the rockets, if you find yourself in a tight spot.
In revenge mode
At 80% Plaguebringer Goliath will start making diagonal attacks instead of horizontal.
These can catch unprepared players by surprise, so be sure to see where they are before dashing in and react accordingly.
Additionally, the missiles they fire travel faster and are more numerous.
In death mode
Plaguebringer Goliath’s attacks are made faster and her projectiles will now travel at a higher speed.
